SAA Opposes SB 228

At a public hearing today before the Senate Committee on Universities and Technical Colleges, the SAA testified in opposition to Senate Bill 228, relating to the Academic Excellence Scholarship Program. Our primary concern is that the bill would dramatically reduce the number of scholarships awarded under the program. The bill would adversely impact students from all types of high schools (urban, suburban, rural). In particular, it would result in significantly fewer scholarship recipients from small rural schools.
The SAA will keep the membership apprised of any developments regarding this legislation.
