AB 835 Passes Senate Easily

By John Forester | February 21, 2018

In floor action last night, the State Senate passed Assembly Bill 835, relating to increasing sparsity aid and the low revenue ceiling, on a 31-1 vote with only Senator David Craig (R-Big Bend) voting against.  The bill now moves on to the Governor’s desk for his anticipated approval.

The SAA strongly supported the bill’s passage and also worked to modify the “failed operating referendum” provision in the bill.  The amendment that addressed this issue, Assembly Amendment 3, was adopted.  The modifications it made to the failed referendum provision of the bill are detailed in the Legislative Council Amendment Memo.

Special thanks to all those members who testified on the bill and/or contacted their legislators in support of the bill.  Stay tuned.
